GoPro HERO4 Revealed! 4K Video at 30FPS and the First Built-In Touch Display

The rumor mill is abuzz with speculation, but we have the first full scoop on the GoPro HERO4.
As many have reported, the two big features that are appearing are 4K video recording at 30FPS and a built-in touch display.

Unfortunately, these two features won’t be appearing in the same camera. Instead, there will be two models: the HERO4 Black (shown above) and the HERO4 Silver (shown below).

HERO4 Black
The HERO4 Black is a powerhouse action camera that doubles the performance of the previous GoPro (yet again). Touted as “the most advanced GoPro ever,” it has improved image quality and a 2x more powerful processor.
The Black will capture 4K video at 30 frames per second, up from the 15fps of previous GoPros, allowing for extremely high-quality footage that’s much more usable for a wide variety of applications.
Here are the available resolutions and frame rates: 4K at 30fps, 2.7K at 50fps, 1440p at 80fps, 1080p at 120fps, 960p at 120fps, and 720p at 120fps. It appears the…

Unveiled: Canon EOS 7D Mark II

The wait is over. Canon has just announced the update to the groundbreaking EOS Canon 7D DSLR, which has been the Canon APS-C workhorse for over five years. The new EOS 7D Mark II DSLR Camera, with a number of significant improvements, is sure to please 7D shooters looking to upgrade or those ready to make the move to one of the best crop sensor DSLRs available.

For starters the APS-C CMOS sensor on the 7D Mark II has been bumped up to contain 20.2MP of effective pixels compared to the 18.0MP of the 7D and the processors skip a generation to include dual DIGIC 6 image processors. These two processors give the 7D Mark II its impressive image quality and low light capability in video as well as stills, and also provide its very fast performance speed which includes continuous full resolution shooting up to 10 fps. The sensitivity range has also been expanded for minimized noise in low-light capture; it runs from ISO 100-16000 but can be expanded to an ISO 51200 equivalenc…

Rumor: Nikon Planning to Release a Camera Featuring Sony’s 50MP Medium Format CMOS Sensor

Mirrorless Rumors has caught wind of a strange-but-exciting rumor from a trusted source: namely, that Nikon has a medium format camera based around Sony’s much-lauded 50MP CMOS MF sensor in the works, and could be debuting it as early as this year’s Photokina.
For now we suggest you load up on the salt on this one, as the trusted source says only that he ‘heard’ of this camera, but it would explain why Nikon filed a patent for a 100mm f/2.5 medium format lens last September.
It would also steal some serious thunder from Canon, who is expected to debut its 7D replacement at the trade show and has even been rumored to be considering an MF camera of its own.

Nikon Announces the Nikon D810

Another famous late-night announcement brings us news of the long-awaited successor to the camera that brought medium-format resolutions to the masses. With its all-glorious 36 megapixels, improved low-light performance, and a new processing engine, the Nikon D810 is finally here…
A new processing engine (combined with a few other possible internal changes) increases ISO performance by one stop. The low-sensitivity end of the native ISO also gained some latitude as it drops to ISO 64 natively (ISO 32, expanded). That, along with the now-permanent removal of an anti-aliasing filter (aka AA or optical low-pass filter) should bring unprecedented quality to the full-frame DSLR segment yet again. Meanwhile, the price will probably follow suit with the silly CF/SD card slot combination as it should stay around the same price (with a possible slight bump) as the D800E when it was introduced at $3300. We’ll have updates on the price as pre-orders roll out shortly enough.

Sony really redefined what full-frame photography could be in the fall of 2013, with the introduction of the A7 and A7R, by far the smallest full-frame, fully-featured interchangeable lens cameras we'd seen to date. Now, the Sony A7S is poised to similarly redefine the world of 4K video and low-light still shooting.
